This partnership tried and tested many ideas over the two years that followed to try and bring a totally new approach to crossbows to the market for all shooters to enjoy.
The result was the PowerUnit: the heart of the Steambow concept. It is a piece of design that the company and its customers can rightly be proud of.
The first PowerUnit prototype saw its design patented worldwide and the birth of the company as you know it: Steambow GmbH.
The guiding principle is this: to build the best crossbow in the world – silent, self-tensioning, collapsible and robust – a crossbow for professional users and crossbow enthusiasts who know their sport.
Since then Steambow has grown: the desire to break new ground with innovative ideas brings a new perspective to ancient technologies.
To do this Steambow use the industry benchmark in professional CAD software for construction and design, manufacturing all parts on the most modern 5-axis CNC machines.
The drive for quality and durability extends from the design to the materials used with aviation aluminum (7075 alloy) and stainless steel as the media for the PowerUnit and with no compromise on the surface coating or the standard of the parts used.

All aluminium parts are milled from single ingots and then hard-anodized. All steambows are assembled where they were designed: in Steambow’s Austrian factory by its own specialist staff.
